Night-time venues across Dalston and Shacklewell were rocked by charity music event Oxjam for a second successful year.
More than 60 bands formed the lineup of Oxjam Takeover Dalston last Saturday and Sunday with a packed schedule across both days. The bands performed in a variety of venues in both wards including The Shacklewell Arms and Birthdays. The event sold more than 200 tickets in advance and many more on the door to raise money for Oxfam’s projects.
“It’s gone really well,” said Georgina Innes, a Dalston local who co-organised the event. “We’ve had an incredible team to work with, which was the most important thing.”
Ms Innes has been working to organise the event since May, together with Rob Dumas, the second organiser. Both describe themselves as “keen supporters” of Oxfam’s projects.
“The last few weeks have been pretty intense obviously, as we all have other jobs,” said Ms Innes.
“It’s unusual as well. Most Oxjam festivals are one day usually, but ours was two days,” added Mr Dumas. “It gives it a bit more of a festival vibe and has a bit more impact on the Dalston agenda.”
Oxfam puts on Oxjam music festivals across the country throughout the month of October. Since the began in 2009, the events have raised a total of £2.3m.
“It’s a great way of engaging people with new music,” Mr Dumas added.
