Big House, a charity that helps care leavers, has opened its first musical, The Realness, at the Hackney Downs Studios in Shacklewell.
The London-based organisation was set up by Maggie Norris in 2013 after she worked for six years trying to rehabilitate offenders and ex-offenders. Using primarily theatre production and participation, Big House aims to support young people in London leaving the care system.
The project has put on plays to help care leavers to realise their potential and build up their skills to move forward and live independently.
Big House has teamed up with Big Broad Productions, whose previous shows include Bad Girls the Musical and Speed Twins, to put on The Realness, a new urban musical about an East London boy’s struggle to start over.
