You’ve probably already heard of the pun-tastic Cereal Killer Café in Shoreditch, which was both mocked and applauded when it opened. The cafe is on a mission to liberate cereal from people’s homes and elevate it to the lofty status of hipster café food. Serving over 100 varieties of cereal from around the world and 12 types of milk, Cereal Killer will bring you a breakfast – or midday snack, or evening meal – like no other.
However, if you don’t fancy sugary cereals with your café experience, why not try one of the other fantastic quirky cafés that Hackney has to offer.
1) Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium
Cat lovers have been flooding to the first café of its kind. Cosy up with a cuppa and the dozens of rescued cats that roam about this coffee shop on Bethnal Green Road.
You will have to make sure that you plan your visit in plenty of time though – the Emporium’s popularity means that you have book far in advance to bag a time slot with the ‘feline friends’. (@LadyDinahsCats)
2) Draughts
Whether you dip into Scrabble at family occasions or pride yourself as an expert Risk strategist, there is something for everyone in Draughts’ 500 board games. It began as Kickstarter campaign, and now this board game café in Haggerston has been promising coffee and old-fashioned competitive fun since November last year. (@Draughtslondon)
3) Cycle Lab and Juice Bar – Hoxton
Hoxton’s Cycle Lab and Juice Bar offers bicycle repair services as well as drinks and crepes.
With plans of new Transport for London Cycle Superhighway underway in Hackney, it could be a perfect rest stop for cyclists to take a break and grab a smoothie while getting their bike fixed up. (@CycleLabUK)
4) Ziferblat
This Russian chain is revolutionising café culture across the continent. Everything inside, from the coffee to the cream cake, is free. The catch? Customers pay for the time they spend there, but with the price set at 3p per minute. (@Ziferblatlondon)
5) Porridge Café
Rise and shine, because here comes London’s first porridge café . This venture from the team behind Bow Street Kitchen promises to serve up delicious petit déjeuners that are not too hot, not too cold, but just right. It opened on Monday 2nd March in Old Street. (@PorridgeCafe)
