The Lone Star State is home to George Bush Jr, Owen Wilson and Beyoncé, but after Lee Leffingwell, mayor of Texas capital Austin, met mayor of Hackney Jules Pipe the two decided on a plan to “create jobs through collaboration”.
The deal will support the digital media sector in both cities, helping traders share knowledge.
Mr Leffingwell said: “Hackney and Austin are both home to thriving independent tech communities, which operate in a very similar way.
“It’s fascinating how such businesses are gravitating towards Hackney and how quickly Tech City is growing as a result.”
The South by South West Interactive Festival, where businesses can sell their services internationally, was held in London last week with over 400 British companies doing deals with the US. The first ever Digital Shoreditch Festival in May will be another opportunity for this kind of business.
Mr Pipe said: “Hackney tech businesses represent a world-class offer, and we will work with Austin and the South by South West festival to help both our communities further confirm their positions on a global stage for growth and attracting investment.”
