While a Tardis trip to Hackney might not be first on the Doctor’s list of priorities, mortal Doctor Who fans who dream about taking a trip to Gallifrey should pop down to a virtual reality cafe in Homerton.
Vivid Reality is one of the select London locations where ‘Whovians’ can put on their headsets, step into the infamous Time Lord’s shoes and take on adversaries such as the Daleks and the Weeping Angels.
The Edge of Time, a Doctor Who game for VR headsets came out on 12 November. The game itself is highly anticipated as a new way to explore The Doctor’s tale, and is being lauded as a “major step up” in story telling experience by the RadioTimes.
VR consoles can cost as much as £1000, so the arrival of VR arcades and sites like Vivid Reality can offer the experience to fans for just £15.
Vivid Reality is also a vegan cafe, serving plant-based snacks such as milkshakes, brownies and waffles.
Co-owner Rebekah Douglas-Bagley said the cafe, which opened earlier this year, is an attempt to offer something different: “We wanted to escape our boring reality, and immerse ourselves in to something new,” she said.
