Frank Dobson, former Health Secretary under Tony Blair, died aged 79 on the night of 11 November.
While his cause of death is not a matter of public record, the news comes after he suffered a stroke earlier this year which led to him being transferred to Homerton University Hospital’s dedicated stroke unit.
Meg Hillier, the Labour candidate for Hackney South and Shoreditch, grew closer to Mr Dobson while she was serving as a councillor in Islington.
She described how the former MP for Holborn was an inspiration who responded to every constituent’s concerns, saying “in some ways I model myself on him”. She added that it felt like “the end of an era” with Mr Dobson’s passing.
