London company Wallhanger Co are holding a game of hide-and-seek, challenging residents to find bicycle hangers that have been hidden around Hackney.
Each day the hanger will be moved to a new location somewhere in the borough. The company is offering a free custom bicycle hanger to anyone who poses for a picture with their bicycle hanging in two different places and uploads it to social media with #wallhangerhunt.
Vernon Henry, founder of Wallhanger Co, said: “We were going around doing an art hunt and we thought, we can hang our product up around Hackney… everyone loves a game of hide-and-seek.
“We want to get local people knowing what we’re doing,” said Henry. “We’re doing a bit of promotion because none of the markets are open.”
The first Wallhanger Co mystery hanger was found by two different people, hidden in Stoke Newington.
Henry started making his bicycle hangers, which resemble taxidermy hunting trophies, after making a desk to work from home and realising he had no space for his bikes in his flat.
“Somehow the urban taxidermy came into it… instead of the tables I started making the trophies and plaques,” he explained.
Now, Henry handmakes the bicycle hangers, designing them based on the colour of the bike and living room furniture of the customer.
Wallhanger Co’s game of hide-n-seek will last for two weeks, up until 21 March, clues to the position of the bicycle hangers can be found on their Instagram stories, at @wallhangerstudio.
