Families in Dalston hit by homelessness and bad housing have a new lifeline, after charity Shelter opened new premises on Tyssen Street last week.
The centre, which will offer housing services and access to legal and mental health schemes, began as a pilot scheme last year, and has already helped more than 500 families.
Connie Cullen, support services manager at the new centre, said: “In London, in the last year alone, nearly 18,000 households were accepted as homeless, which is 94 per cent higher than it was five years ago.
“It’s not that Hackney is worse than other places at all, but we wanted to be in a location that was easy for people to access and that fitted well with the services that we currently have in London.”
If people find themselves struggling with housing problems, Shelter can help. Visit the new hub at 4 Tyssen St, London E8, shelter.org.uk/advice or call the London public advice line on 0344 515 1540.
