Knives with cord-wrapped handles have been retrieved from the streets of Dalston thanks to information on their whereabouts from a member of the public. This comes after two stabbings were reported in the last fortnight.
Dalston Police’s Tweet on 18 March said: ‘Thanks to information provided by a member of the public, officers were able to quickly remove these weapons from the streets of #Dalston. If you have any concerns about suspicious behaviour in your area, let us know.’

On Sunday 6 March, a 54-year-old man was discovered with stab wounds on Ridley Road, Dalston. A large section of Dalston Lane was closed as a result. No arrests have been made as of yet.
Shortly after, on Wednesday 9 March, a 23-year-old man was discovered on Pownall Road with a knife wound. Two people were charged with attempted murder on 11 March.
Both victims were transported to local hospitals, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
A Dalston resident said: “I generally feel safe living in Dalston, but the levels of knife crime are scary. It means I’ve started to avoid certain spots and at night and I always make sure I’m not travelling alone when it’s late.”
News of the stabbings comes after crime rates in Dalston were found to be more than three times higher than the crime rate in Hackney in February 2022, according to the Metropolitan Police’s crime rate comparison.
The report identifies Kingsland High Street, Dalston Lane and Ashwin Street as Dalston’s crime hotspots.
Dalston Police have been approached for comment.
