A photographer who has documented Stoke Newington’s small businesses on film will unveil her project at an exhibition next week.
Issy Oakes undertook the photo documentary in her spare time to get to know the people behind the businesses on Stoke Newington Church Street when she moved to the area in 2009.
Sixty photos later, and having branched out from just Church Street to include Stoke Newington High Street, Issy’s project will be shown in its entirety at the Gallery behind Stoke Newington Library.
The exhibition will also feature work by fellow east London artists, painter Tom Hemming and sculptor Russell Terry.
Issy is keen to extend the project to the whole of the borough, despite the landmark exhibition. She said: “Never say never. I have thought about it a lot and I would love to carry on – that is if I find the time!”
The exhibition will run 15-20 March, Tuesday to Saturday 11am-5pm and Sunday 1-3pm.
