Kate Middleton won’t be at a royally raunchy striptease celebrating her wedding in Hackney. But her burlesque lookalike is currently making the final touches to her extravagant strip in preparation for Dalston’s alternative Royal Wedding party.
“I’m putting an enormous train on it so I can swoosh the tail around with a stick,” says Agent Lynch, who adds that her act has been inspired by Prince William’s fiancée and the nation’s number one fashion icon. “I have about 1000 Swarovski crystals to stick on too. I’ve had this dress for a while because I did an act a few years ago as Priscilla Presley with a Mexican Elvis impersonator.”
She will be performing at Dalston’s Royal Wedding-themed arts festival, Land of Kings, which takes place from 28 – 29 April.
Agent Lynch, who lives in Dalston, has been running around local markets and craft shops looking for crystal and sequin additions for the costume as well as experimenting with a miniature crown she found at the Tower of London.
She will perform the act for the first time tonight at Guts for Garters, a new shop in Camden, but she has revealed details of the performance exclusively to the Hackney Post.
“It’s a bit under wraps at the moment,” says the star – no pun intended. “But it’s going to be pretty outrageous. It’s a burlesque show so it’ll end in semi-nudity.
“There’s going to be a crazy, show girl, royal, semi-bondage-inspired costume underneath. It’s a bit of a Mickey-take, really.”
Although this will be her first contemporary performance – she is normally inspired by retro costumes – Agent Lynch really does bear an uncanny resemblance to the future Princess of Wales.
“People have been saying I look like Kate Middleton for years. Actually it used to really annoy me. But now I think, ‘oh well!’ I’ll just use Kate’s looks to my advantage.”
However, recreating Kate’s characteristic hairstyle will be her greatest challenge.
“I’ve got very similar hair to her but I’m going to have to concentrate on making it extra glossy. She has the glossiest hair in the world. I think she wakes up with hair like that.”
Agent Lynch is a huge fan of Kate Middleton and hopes she would see the humour in her portrayal of the future Queen of England.
“It’s risqué but it’s a tribute. I don’t think you’ve made it until people start impersonating you,” she says. “I think that she’s so well behaved and I think everyone would like to see her – once she is married – loosen up a bit and wear some more exciting clothes. I’m sure she will. So what I’m going to do is a very exaggerated version of what I imagine Kate Middleton might do when she lets her hair down.”
