A man died on Wednesday 21 October after being pulled from the River Lea in Lea Bridge ward.

A passer-by discovered a bike, clothes and a bag discarded on the river bank, and a cyclist reported that a man had entered the water and had not surfaced. This triggered a 90 minute search for the man by emergency services including an air ambulance.

The man was located, and pulled alive from the river at around 10am using specialist water recovery equipment, and was treated at the scene. However, despite being rushed to hospital, the man was pronounced dead at around noon.

Police have said that the death is not thought to be suspicious, and are looking for next of kin.

His name has not been released.
