A small number of tickets will be released on Monday for the sold-out Yayoi Kusama exhibition at Victoria Miro Gallery, before it closes on 2 November.
Exhibition-goers will have the chance to step into a mirrored hexagonal space with a breathtaking orb at its heart, then experience a sensory show of pulsating, coloured lights.
Ms Kusama is famous for her immersive art, and is debuting this brand-new viewer experience, ‘EVERY DAY I PRAY FOR LOVE’.
Ms Kusama said: “Thousands of illuminated colours blinking at the speed of light – isn’t this the very illusion of Life in our transient world?”
For ‘Infinity Mirrored Room – Beauty Described’, Ms Kusama has transformed the gallery – an architecturally stunning warehouse in Wharf Road – into her own vision of contemporary artwork.
Throughout the gallery, there are other eclectic pieces from 95-year-old Ms Kusama’s latest series, including paintings, installations and sculptures. She is known as the ‘princess of polka dots’, as many of her works feature intricate, playful dots and bold outlines.
Akira Tatehata, curator and critic, said: “[The artworks] convey a strong impression of Kusama’s sense of humour.”
Ms Kusama is regarded as one of the most successful and important living artists. A three-year sold-out exhibition of her work at the Tate Modern closed in April this year after multiple extensions. The final tickets for this exhibition will be released here on Monday 28 October at 12 noon.
