Phone theft in Hoxton has risen dramatically in the last two years, new figures have revealed.

The figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, show that Hoxton, near popular Shoreditch, had a higher number of phones stolen in September this year than in any other month since late 2011.

Over a 12-month period, 314 phones were stolen in Hoxton, out of 5868 phones stolen across the borough.

Phone thefts in Hoxton over the year have risen by nearly 12 per cent, and were at their highest ever this September, with Hoxton accounting for 8 per cent of thefts in Hackney.

The most popular phones stolen in Hoxton and Hackney are iPhones, followed by Samsungs.
The @MPSHackney Twitter account tweeted cases where phones had been stolen, along with the hashtag #loveyourphone, in a bid to encourage more awareness of the problem.
