An expensive education obviously can’t buy you everything, as the Duke of York made a #hash of it when he made history signing off the very first royal tweet.
Prince Andrew was filling in for the Queen on a visit to Hackney’s Tech City after she was forced to cancel all arrangements due to her ongoing ill health.
But he missed out a vital punctuation mark in his first tweet leading him to say that Tech City represents innovation “that we can all be proud of A.”

On arrival the Duke was greeted by Joanna Shields, CEO of Tech City UK.
The Duke also toured the offices of advertising agency Mother and Yammer, the private social network which works like Twitter, which he revealed he was a fan of earlier this week.
His whole tweet read: “Great to visit @yammer and @motherlondon today, fantastic innovation in @techcityUK that we can all be proud of A.”
Elizabeth Varley, co-founder of workspace innovators TechHub, said: “It’s great to see all sorts of people taking an interest in how technology is created. We’re very happy to have shown the Duke of York the exciting and innovative products that are generated in this thriving technology cluster.”
Earlier in the week, Prince Andrew’s staff told the BBC he was a “techie”.
The Prince told the BBC that the Royal family acted as the “early adoption gang,” trying out new technology for the Buckingham Palace IT department. He said they were fans of Apple’s iPads and although they were cautious about social networking, they did use Yammer, which is among the firms he visited at Tech City.
Prince Andrew added: “I’ve been working very closely with Tech City and Hackney. There is 35 per cent unemployment for 18 to 35 year-olds in hat part of London. What I want to do is try to encourage apprentices to be taken on from the local area.”
Adam Pisoni, CTO co-founder, Yammer said: “We are very proud and honoured to have been chosen as a host for the Duke’s visit to Tech City. The support we receive from Tech City and the great talent pool available here were both key factors in our decision to open our first engineering centre outside of San Francisco here in London.”
The royal visit generated much hype on Twitter. Stephane Schneider tweeted: “Welcome to Prince Andrew… So much energy and happiness in the #siliconroundabout today!”
At the event in Tech City, Amber Ryan, a student from Ravensbourne College of Design and Technology, presented the Duke with a 3D-print of a Welsh Corgi.
