The Vamps hold virtual concert at Hackney Round Chapel

British boyband The Vamps performed a livestream concert at the Hackney Round Chapel on Saturday evening, charging £50 a ticket. The band’s army of dedicated fans were delighted to have the chance to see a performance of the album Cherry Blossom, which was released in October.

The band’s bassist Connor Ball tweeted to express his feelings about the performance: “That gig was wonderful and weird and everything in between … we couldn’t celebrate together in a room so we did it virtually.”

The experience – produced and promoted by the technological production company Driift Live – was enjoyed by fans from around the world, with tweets coming in from as far as the Philippines and Brazil.

Some missed the point of the streamed concert and tried to meet the band outside the Round Chapel after the performance. But, according to a Round Chapel spokesperson, security was on hand to prevent any mishaps.

The spokesperson also told the Hackney Post that they would definitely consider hosting more live-streamed events, especially given the uncertainty of these times. “We were previously a bit cynical, but the digital delivery of live performance has improved at great pace. It brings its own challenges to sell the idea, but it really does feel like everyone can have a front row seat.”
