A club in Shoreditch is hosting its first ever Lady Gaga-themed night to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The Book Club hosts its ‘Sheroes’ event every Thursday, to celebrate women in the music industry. The night is female-themed and every month focuses on different successful women in the business. This month is centred around Academy Award winner, Lady Gaga.

The Book Club said: “Gaga is a true artist and innovator who has trail blazed over the music industry and contemporary culture for the last 10 years. Her evolution as an artist has intoxicated us across a phenomenally extensive body of art that seems to exude from every fibre of her being – spanning music, technology, fashion and art and she is thus the perfect Shero to be celebrating this March.”

Last month the club celebrated Diana Ross and the upcoming commemoration in April is for Whitney Houston. The music of each month’s artist is played throughout the night, alongside other tracks they have influenced. The event starts at 8pm and finishes at 2am.

The Book Club’s music programmer, Ollie Lewis, said: “These are artists who’ve shaped pop culture and are true originators – not to mention their obvious style game and attitude.”

The buzz for this new focus of the event is illustrated by one Instagram user who said: “I think as soon as we get off the train on Thursday we need to head to this [event].”

Lady Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, won an Oscar last month for her song ‘Shallow’. The ‘Poker Face’ singer also won the Elle women in Hollywood award and in her acceptance speech she spoke about being a woman in the industry. She said: “What does it really mean to be a woman in Hollywood? We are not just objects to entertain the world.  We women in Hollywood, we are voices. We have the power to speak and be heard and fight back when we are silenced”.

The club is also hosting a karaoke evening to mark the award-winning artist’s birthday on 28 March.
