A coffee entrepreneur, who attracted the attention of tech start up company Shoreditch Works by designing his very own coffee grinder, has just opened his first coffee shop in Hoxton.
Alexander MacIntyre, a Haggerston resident, was approached by Shoreditch Works for being a self-described “hardware start-up”. His own coffee grinder is in use in the café alongside two £5,000 coffee machines.
MacIntyre Coffee, a part of the Shoreditch Village Hall building, opened its doors to customers this Monday.
Mr MacIntyre had wanted to open a coffee shop after an eight-year career in the coffee field that took him all around the world.
“For people who are passionate about coffee, opening a coffee shop is an inevitable step for them,” he said.
He believes he can produce better quality coffee than the likes of Costa and Starbucks.
“When you’re a business of a certain size you cannot maintain a certain level of quality anymore. They tend to be consistently average, at best.”
The next step will be to provide coffee training sessions and sell coffee brewing kits, Mr MacIntyre added.
“This is my first cafe, and isn’t necessarily my last, but every cafe that I open won’t be like the last one that I opened.”
