Three Hackney food outlets have been nominated in BBC Radio 4’s Food and Farming awards.
E5 Bakehouse, What the Dickens and Square Root London have all been nominated for one of the prestigious prizes.
Square Root London, based on on Amhurst Road, is the first soft-drinks outlet in the history of the awards to be nominated for the Best Drinks Producer accolade.
Robyn Simms, Square Root London’s co-owner, said: “We are so excited about the whole thing. It was so unexpected. It feels amazing, and it’s great that so many people from Hackney have been nominated.”
What the Dickens, a food stall currently featuring at KERB events across the capital, revives British classics like kedgeree, was nominated in the Best Street Food or Takeaway category.
Adam Bernstein, from What the Dickens, said: “Winning this award would be a validation of the quality of our food and the effort we put into sourcing and preparing it.
So much love has been put into the stall – I’m thrilled we’ve been nominated. “We are also friends with all the other Hackney nominees, and it’s great that they have been nominated too.”
E5 Bakehouse, an independent, organic bakery on Mentmore Terrace, was nominated in the Best Food Producer category.
The shortlisted nominees will be now be judged by a panel of esteemed food critics and chefs such as Charles Campion, Richard Corrigan and Valentine Warner.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Bristol in a few weeks’ time.
