Cave of Plunder – 201 Lower Clapton Rd, London E5 8EG
You only need to walk through the door of this intriguing shop to see that it is very aptly named. But between the impressive shelves of gifts and fancy dress there is a rather wonderful cafe featuring a range of freshly ground Nude Espresso coffees. Don’t worry if coffee isn’t your thing though, Cave of Plunder also have a milkshake bar that has attracted something of a cult following among local students.
MacIntyre Coffee – 19-21 Hoxton Street, N1 6NG
This Hoxton-based coffee shop has a wide range of beverages on offer that will satisfy anyone’s need for caffeine. It only opened its doors in November last year, but has already acquired quite a following. The coffee machines alone are worth £5000 so you can definitely expect a unique brew. The beans are sourced globally – just last week the cafe had coffee beans from Heart Roasters in Portland USA! It is therefore no surprise that MacIntyre Coffee has been attracting coffee lovers to Shoreditch from all over the world.
Le Parc Cafe – 191 Stoke Newington Church Street N16 0UL
Just a few steps down the road from Clissold Park lies this petite delicatessen. Its charming woody interior and friendly staff enhance the cafexperience, already rich with authentic Italian espresso and a range of exotic teas designed to satiate your caffeine tooth. You’d be remiss not to try its selection of pastries, particularly the red velvet cake – oh, the frosting!
Look Mum No Hands! – 49 Old Street, London, EC1V 9HX
The perfect combination for lovers of coffee and cycling, this vibrant cafe uses local coffee (from Square Mile around the corner). The food – which is always made from fresh ingredients – is great too. There’s a lot more on offer than coffee though! They also host bike maintenance courses, live music events, and of course, they show cycling on the big screen.
Venetia’s Coffee – 55 Chatsworth Road, London E5 0LH
The first of an ever-expanding cluster of cafes catering to Chatsworth Road’s trendy cappuccino-sippers, Venetia’s Coffee is a special place. Opened in 2007 before the hipsters descended on Hackney, the small independent cafe provides high quality coffee while its artsy interior offers a welcoming space to spend a Saturday afternoon. The emphasis on local business is an important part of Venetia’s DNA, with a conscious effort to use carefully selected locally sourced produce in preparing its sandwiches, soups, stews and home-made cakes.
