Ask Amy, a political app backed by Hackney Downs Labour councillor Anna-Joy Rickard, is set to be launched after meeting its crowdfunding target.
Ms Rickard’s digital initiative No One Ever Told Me About Politics has successfully raised the £5,000 needed to develop the WhatsApp style program that allows young people to ask questions about politics.
Users ‘ask’ Amy their questions about current affairs and receive text, image, video or interactive responses. Ms Rickard describes the app as “a Siri for politics.”
She said: “We’re trying to take the jargon out of politics and make it more manageable for people in their teens and 20s.”
Ask Amy will now undergo development to include more features, including alerts on parliamentary discussions and Buzzfeed-style quizzes.
Ms Rickard added: “Our communication has to be relevant to Generation Y.”
Seventy-nine backers donated a minimum of £25 each to the cause; the running total stands at £5,120.
