Over 1,200 people took part in the second annual ‘Where’s Wally?’ fun run in Victoria Park on Sunday, raising over £67,000 for the National Literacy Trust.
The runners set off at 11am under bright sunshine and warm temperatures, with two thirds opting to run the 10K race, with the running the 5K distance.
Amongst the 5K runners were Edward Bougo and his 9 year old nephew Sam Lawrence who completed the run in 25 minutes.
An ecstatic Mr Bougo told the Hackney Post: “When he (Sam) was four and five years old I would read him stories of Where’s Wally?. I’m really proud we did this. He likes running and to do the course in the time we did is amazing.”
Anna Jones, a manager at the Literacy Trust who is taking part in the London Marathon later in the year, said the event was in line to exceed the £90,000 total from last year.
“The money will go to some great causes and the sunny weather has really helped especially as it was one degree Celsius last year with snow.”
All the participants received a Wally costume and a medal at the finish.
