Are you looking for the best takeaways in Hackney for your next “Big Night In“? Look no further.

Over the past few months, we have all embarked on risky culinary endeavours that have sometimes resulted in the-fluffiest-banana-bread-ever or a sourdough that could easily be confused with a flat-bread. But there are some days when even the idea of turning on the oven or the stove makes you want to hide under the sheets and hope that the cooking just does itself.

Fortunately, many of the top restaurants in Hackney offer you that opportunity. During each lockdown, the industry has adapted to offer what people are looking for: quality meals that you can eat hiding under your covers, thankful that you do not have to do the dishes twice in one day. From double-patty burgers to seasonal fine dining at home, the buzzing Hackney takeaway scene truly has something for everyone. By no means a comprehensive list, these are five of the best takeaways in Hackney.

1. Mao Chow

Even if you are not a vegan, dumplings in chilli oil and garlicky noodles with mushroom mince may sound like everything you have ever wanted. It could be difficult to get a spot at this acclaimed but admittedly tiny vegan Chinese restaurant before times became perpetually ‘unprecedented’, which gives you the perfect excuse to continue enjoying their food from your couch even after lockdown ends. Add the zing of a cool smacked cucumber pickle and you really do have everything you ever wanted.

2. Tonkotsu

Every day, the chefs at this ramen bar make one each of their signature stocks and three types of fresh noodles from scratch. From the classic Tonkotsu ramen with a rich pork broth base, to the Vegan Japanese Miso Mushroom ramen, this popular spot has a bowl of cosiness for everyone to enjoy and takeaway to the comfort of their home.

3. Hill & Szrok

You might not expect a butcher to be on the list of the best takeaways in Hackney. But it’s 2021, and if the butcher in question makes a burger with two-aged beef patties, American cheese and special sauce, why question this any further? According to Eater London, “these people aren’t messing about, with the burger a staple on the takeaway lunch menu”.

4. Pidgin

You know how sometimes you love a restaurant and you get takeout from there often, until you have had everything on the menu enough times for it to lose its appeal? That will never happen at Pidgin. The entire concept behind the restaurant is that they serve a different menu every week, and you can now try things like German lamb meatballs with Könisberger sauce and fried caper crumb on your couch. So far, they have served almost a thousand dishes and have received positive reviews from The Guardian and the Financial Times. This elegant at-home gastronomic experience is not one to miss.
