It’s a form of graffiti that even your grandmother might approve of.
A new kind of street art hit Hackney last week, as guerilla knitters wrapped a Stoke Newington tree in a warm woollen jumper.
Hackney has a vibrant street art scene, and world renowned grafitti artist Banksy has daubed the borough’s walls with some of his most famous works.
With spring not quite sprung, one nimble-fingered stitcher decided to protect the tree from the elements and give it a new look at the same time.
The artist went as far as choosing natural colours to complement the tree trunk.
Also known as urban knitting, these crocheted covers have appeared on public property in cities like New Delhi, Stockholm and Texas.
