When the Hackney Post last spoke to Tim Jones he had almost given up hope of finding his beloved Green Triumph bike.
Weeks had gone by since the luckless Jones had lost the “Traffic Master” after leaving it unlocked outside the Jolly Butchers pub in Stoke Newington.
Jones’s subsequent appeal melted the hearts of Londoners and his story was shared by LBC London and Shortlist.
Tim has got his Green Triumph bike back!
When we heard Tim’s sad story we took his cause to heart and now, two weeks since it disappeared, we can exclusively reveal that Tim has got his bike back!
It was the Post wot won it…back
An exuberant Tim said: “I got it back! All thanks to your article” and said he was looking forward to enjoying the rest of St Patrick’s day happy and reunited with the “Traffic Master”.
Tim told the Hackney Post that our story had been seen across social media and someone had been in touch who was sure he had seen the bike locked outside a property in Hackney.
He visited the house, explained his story to the owner and reclaimed his two wheeled wonder.
Tim’s original appeal
“To the guy who took my Green Triumph Bike from outside the Jolly Butchers on Friday night at 4am please please please can I have it back. It’s totally my fault because I didn’t lock it up and I don’t blame you, it’s a sweet bike, but I really love it.
“I saw you on the CCTV and you look like a pretty normal guy so please you’ll make my year. I can’t overstate how much I love this bike.
“I know leaving it unlocked doesn’t make it look like it, but I really do.”
In an earlier interview with the Hackney Post, Mr Jones reconstructed the events on that fateful winter evening.
“I was only planning on staying for a beer or two”, he said, “so I put it on a stand just a few metres from me but then a few beers turned into more, my girlfriend suggested we get a takeaway and then I completely forgot about it and went home.
“It was a bit of a sh*t bike and I rebuilt it a few times myself.”
