Hackney Community College has launched a Tech City apprentice programme geared toward the employment needs of Shoreditch and Old Street.
Rohan Silva, Cameron’s senior technology policy adviser, said: “Tech City apprenticeships will give hundreds of unemployed young people the chance to work for some of the world’s most exciting and innovative technology companies.”
The 500-place scheme, backed by Number 10 and City Hall, has already attracted the interest of 20 companies.
Deputy Mayor of London for Business and Enterprise, Kit Malthouse, believes apprenticeships are vital for getting young people into work.
He added: “Now that we have this scheme, it is our job to knock on the door of big organisations and make sure that they engage.”
“We believe this is a crucial opportunity to help local people into work,” said Hackney College Principal Ian Ashman, “and help Tech City companies to grow and develop.”
