For the Foodie Mum
If you want to treat your mum to something delicious this Mother’s Day, Dark Sugars in Brick Lane is a must-visit. Made with West-African cocoa, you can buy a selection of handmade truffles in a variety of flavours.
Cocoa-dusted matcha truffles greet you when you walk in, and little works of art in the shape of tequila-filled pipettes stick out of chocolate truffle cups in the centre. Pearly chocolates in all different colours line the counter, where someone is busy making hot chocolates drowning in a pile of chocolate shavings.Â
For Mother’s Day Dark Sugars is offering a gift box of their ‘edible pearls,’ which come in a variety of flavours including champagne and red-velvet. And if your mum is too picky to choose for, a gift card could be a nice alternative.Â
See the website here: https://www.darksugars.co.uk/ or visit at 141 Brick Lane, E1 6SB, open daily from 10am to 8pm.

For the vintage-loving Mum
Hackney is well known for its eclectic vintage offerings, and just down the road from Dark Sugars is the Brick Lane Vintage Market. While many shops line the street itself, an entire underground market is home to vintage records, clothes and accessories.
Your mum might not be looking for a silk boned corset (although who are we to judge?), and there are some slightly pricier gems like this vintage Burberry trench coat. And if all else fails, there is an abundance of silk scarves.
Open at F Block, 85 Brick Lane every Monday-Saturday from 11am-6pm, the market will be open next Sunday for Mother’s Day from 10am to 6pm. Visit the website for more information: http://www.vintage-market.co.uk/Â

For the market addict Mum
East London is home to some of the City’s most eclectic and fun markets year-round. Spitalfields, Borough and Columbia Road Flower Market are just a few. But Victoria Park Market, open every Sunday from 10am-4pm, is home to a delightful variety of award-winning street foods, great coffee, flowers and live music.
Daffodils are £1 a bunch as you enter on the left, the doughnuts are to die for and, if you’re feeling sanctimonious, there’s always a salad stall. If you’re looking for a way to spend some quality time next Sunday while enjoying the spring sunshine, this is the place for you.
The market can be found on a street called the Nightwalk, inside the park between Bonner Gate and Gore Gate. The nearest postcode is E2 9JW, check out Victoria Parks website for more information: http://victoriaparkmarket.com/.Â

For the nick-nack loving Mum
Stoke Newington Church Street is the perfect day out to treat your mum to. Start at the Clissold Park end and visit the deer enclosure before winding your way up one of Hackney’s most picturesque streets.
As well as its unique bakeries, including the famous Spence Bakery, the street has a wonderful selection of boutique home and lifestyle shops. Know & Love specialises in eco-friendly products made locally, and mums will be sure to love its array of ceramics and textiles.
Also located on the street is Revere the Residence, a social enterprise employing only disabled youths or their parents. Kate, the owner, has created a shop that delights the senses. Colourful cushions, feminist prints and neon candles are just a small taste of this shop’s wild and wonderful products.

Early Bird Designs specialises in stationery and its Mother’s Day cards are sure to delight. Numerous other shops litter this peaceful street and, as most of the small shops are independent, mums can feel comfortable that they’re supporting local businesses.Â
For the Mum who loves an experience
If your mum fancies more of an active day out, Hackney is one of London’s best boroughs to walk through. Take her from Hoxton to Broadway Market along Regent’s Canal, stopping at the Towpath Café for a coffee.

Next to Hoxton Overground station you can find The Museum of the Home, which is currently showing Jitterbug, a short film about the experience of a Black teenage girl living in Hackney.
Alternatively, House of Lady Muck on Mare Street offers reasonably priced nail appointments and also sells deliciously scented bath and body gift-sets. She might also enjoy a cycle around London Fields, or a swim in the park’s heated lido.
Strong and Bendy, Hackney Wick’s outdoor fitness studio, is hosting numerous Mother’s Day exercise classes including an intense core-conditioning session. More information can be found here: https://strongandbendy.co.uk/ Hackney is not short of fun and eclectic experiences to keep your mum busy this Sunday.
