A staff member at a mental health centre has been charged with helping convicted murderer Lerone Boye escape from custody.
Dean Ablakwa, 29, from North London, works at the John Howard Centre in Homerton where Boye was serving his 28 year sentence.
Ablakwa was arrested yesterday and will appear at Thames Magistrates Court charged with conspiracy to assist an offender to escape from lawful custody, Scotland Yard said.
Lerone Boye was imprisoned alongside three other men for the murder of Kelvin Chibueze in August 2011, and has been on the run for eight days.
17-year-old Chibueze collapsed in a car park outside Lidl after he was repeatedly stabbed with a foot-long blade in a brawl at Arteflex nightclub, off High Road, Ilford.
Police have released a CCTV image of the convicted murderer in the moments before he escaped from the John Howard Centre. Boye was last seen wearing grey jogging bottoms, a grey/blue sweatshirt, and a grey vest.
He is a black man of slim build, with short black hair. He has a horseshoe-shaped scar on his right cheek, a goatee beard and a gold tooth. Anyone who sees him has been asked to contact 999.
