A bar is to open on the site of a former launderette on Well Street, Homerton.
Lauren Johns, co-owner at Machine No. 3, which plans to open its doors for the first time this weekend, said she hoped to improve life for the community:
“A lot of people felt this part of Well Street was quite unsafe, so the more night-time trade there is, the safer it will feel.
“The venue we’re taking over was dilapidated and vandalised, so we’re just adding to the street and improving the area.”
Homerton business owners reacted positively to the bar’s arrival. Memik, manager of the nearby Morning News Supermarket , said: “There used to be broken glass, broken windows on the corner. So it’ll look much better for the community.”
