Hackney Wick FC eased to a 3-0 away win over Coggeshall United in the Thurlow Nunn League this weekend.
The victory was the team’s third against top-six opposition in their last three away matches.
In the 38th minute, Hackney Wick’s Joel Appiah robbed Coggeshall United’s centre-back of the ball in the opposition’s 18-yard-box, before turning neatly around the keeper and finishing low into an empty net.
The no. 10 doubled his tally on the stroke of half-time, as he fired in a rebound after Tony Cookey displayed some fancy footwork to beat the Coggeshall defenders and enter the box.
Appiah celebrated with the crowd, knowing he had left Coggeshall with a lot of work for the second half.
But there was no chance of a comeback for the home team, and the result was wrapped up soon after the break, with Jeff Idemudia making it 3-0 to Hackney Wick.
The win moves Hackney Wick into sixth place in the Thurlow Nunn League, level on 51 points with Coggeshall.
Hackney Wick have four games in hand over the top two teams in the league, and a strong run over the next month could catapult them into the top three.
Hackney Wick will debut their new home kit in their next home fixture. The strip has already been the subject of much admiration online, even featuring in online football magazine Soccer Bible.
