Hackney Police has faced fierce criticism over a tongue-in-cheek tweet about a toddler found wandering around without its parents.
The tweet, posted just after 10am on Monday, said: “Have you lost a two/ three year old child? If you have, great news! We found one!”
Parents of the Polish toddler, described as having “blue eyes, green wellies & a blue jacket”, came forward only 45 minutes later.
Thank you for all your RTs both parents for our found toddler have now been located. And we will be speaking with them shortly.

Police criticised
Twitter users, however, were not amused by the tweet.
Sonia Cook said the appeal was “worded like a found dog”.
She added: “Not really the correct tone for finding a vulnerable child!! A lost child is not really a joking matter.”
Colin Wyatt agreed. “I genuinely thought this was a gag. The tone is soooo wrong,” he said.

“The child is not a piece of lost property! From the manner of the tweet that’s what it comes across as,” Patrick McDonough said.
User @Police_dr, however, thought the response was over the top. “Twitter reaction unreal. More fuss over the tweet then [sic] there is with parent who’s lost the child. Chin up chest out @MPSHackney.”
