Cadets marching for Remembrance Day
COUNCILLORS and volunteers joined the people of Hackney at the annual Remembrance Sunday service.
At the war memorial outside St John at Hackney Church, people from across the borough
united to pay their respects to Hackney’s fallen servicemen and women.
Leaders of the Jewish and Sikh communities made readings and laid wreaths alongside representatives of the Christian church.
Military veterans’ society the Memorable Order of Tin Hats left a wreath “in memory of all our passed comrades.”
Cadet groups from the Army, RAF and Royal Navy joined full-time servicemen and women standing to attention at the minute’s silence before the parade moved into the church.
After the Christian service, the parade marched down the Narrow Way onto Mare street and past Hackney Central station.
The parade performed the traditional march-past salute outside Hackney Town Hall before laying wreaths at the Town Hall War Memorial.
A wreath was laid on the war memorial, with the message “From the Speaker of Hackney, Councillors and Officers of the London Borough of Hackney 2015. In Remembrance”.
Second Lieutenant Allen, 41, who volunteers for the cadets twice a week, said he was “very proud of my lot. They were absolutely great.”
