A folk duo described as “brave, brilliant, deeply music[al] and creative” ended their UK tour at the Round Chapel in Lower Clapton on 30 October.
Owen Spafford and Louis Campbell, known musically as Spafford Campbell, began performing together in 2018 after meeting as teenagers as part of the National Youth Folk Ensemble. This initiative aims to bring together young folk singers and develop their skills.
Spafford Campbell’s performance in Hackney was the final stop on a tour that launched their latest album, titled Tomorrow Held.
The pair have garnered praise from high-profile figures in their industry, such as British folk singer Martin Simpson, who has raved about their “brave [and] brilliant” sound.
Their new album has been described by their label, Fire in the Mountain, as “a visionary work…that fold[s] in elements of jazz, post-rock and chamber classical music while raiding the folk music toolbox”.
The label added that the Grade II listed Round Chapel building was “the perfect venue for a [sic] evening of sublime music”.
