A De Beauvoir Councillor has been selected to run for Parliament in the 2015 General Election.
Tom Ebbutt, who has represented De Beauvoir for over three years, beat off two opponents to become Labour’s candidate for Bromsgrove in the West Midlands, it was announced on Saturday.
“It’s a real privilege to be selected for the area where I grew up,” Ebbutt said.
Ebbutt has “massively enjoyed” being a councillor and has no plans to stand down when campaigning begins.
“I’d obviously stand down if I was elected to be an MP but Bromsgrove’s got a 10,000 Tory majority.”
While the odds may be against him, the Hackney councillor has long standing connections with his constituency – his mother is a school teaching assistant there and his father is a leader at Lickey Scouts Troup.
