City Academy Hackney launch £1000 fundraising campaign to donate to St Joseph’s Hospice

City Academy students are taking part in a fundraiser to donate money to the hospice which treated a dying member of staff.

Pupils are trying to raise £1,000 in donations for St Joseph’s Hospice.

From 11-15 March, a charity run is taking place at Hackney Marsh each day during PE lessons.

Around 1,000 students who have chosen to run one or two kilometres, are expected to have taken part by tomorrow.

Students were given sponsorship forms to “collect as much money as they can from family and friends”, according to Shannon Hardy, who works at City Academy.

Hardy said: “They are encouraging parents and teachers to donate via their JustGiving page.”

Samantha Nasser, Head of Marketing and Communications said: “We’re very reliant on fundraising, volunteers and our community, who are very good at giving us what they can.”

“St Joseph’s only receives 56% of its funding from the NHS, which means they rely on charity fundraising to deliver the best services.”

The school has so far raised just over £280.
