Police have found a “cannabis factory” in a flat on Morning Lane, Homerton.

Officers were forced to break into the flat to evacuate it whilst responding to a fire in the pizzeria below, last Wednesday afternoon.

They discovered over 50 cannabis plants inside. Tweeting a picture of the plants, officers joked that “sales of doritos have fallen sharply in the homerton area.”

Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters and officers were needed to control the blaze, which was not found to be suspicious.

A Met spokesman said: “The presence of the cannabis factory remains under investigation. There have been no arrests, and enquiries continue.”
