Building work on the Woodberry Downs scheme, one of the largest regeneration projects in London has started.

The project one of the first to receive funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) commenced last Thursday during a ceremony attended by 150 residents and key stakeholders.

The development is set to provide more than 4,500 homes as well as a new community centre, to replace an existing facility.

Jules Pipe, Mayor of Hackney, said: “This is an important step for Woodberry Down, and another positive sign that it’s all taking shape. Woodberry Down is about more than high-quality building design; it is about the communities that live here, and realising the benefits of these new homes for everyone.”

The work is expected to be completed next year.
