Tackling bicycle thefts will now become a priority, local police have announced.
This follows a rise in stolen bicycles from July to September, with five stolen in September alone in De Beauvoir, according to Metropolitain Police.
The police promised to increase the number of patrols and promoted upcoming bike marking events, a process that allows cyclists to digitally register their bikes with police for them to then track.
At the latest ward meeting, local police emphasised the effectiveness of the scheme, which they aim to carry out every three months.
PCSO Joshua Belsey, member of the De Beauvoir Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “The initiative is as much as a preventative measure as a way to track down any stolen bikes.
“The hope is that when the marks are seen, it will act as a deterrent.”
PCSO Belsey also said that conducting daily patrols “in tandem with the bike marking acts as an effective measure against would-be thieves.”
The team has already recovered several stolen bikes via the measure.
