The Ace Hotel London – a Shoreditch cultural hub – shut its doors in March and, on 11th September, the decision was taken not to reopen the hotel.

The Lore Group, a hotel company which rented the building to the Ace Hotel, said it planned to renovate the hotel and reopen it under its own management.

“Given the unprecedented impact of COVID-19, the Ace Hotel and its outlets will remain closed so that we can invest in significant renovation that will both refresh and enhance the guest experience,” said a spokesperson from the Lore Group.

“We are also taking over direct management of the hotel, consistent with the other premium hotels in our collection.”

“We are grateful to Ace for helping us make the hotel what it is today and look forward to welcoming guests back once the work is complete.” The timescale for these renovations, however, is unclear.

Former staff and partners paid tribute to Ace Hotel after its closure was announced. Tas Elias, Senior Brand Manager for the Ace Hotel, said it was “the most wonderful place I’ve ever had the pleasure of working [at].”

“I met some absolute superstars that blew my mind with their magnificence … I’m proud to have been part of it.”

The hotel opened in 2013 in a building that was previously the Crowne Plaza London. It quickly established itself as an influencer-friendly hub for Shoreditch’s design scene, hosting exhibitions and events in its bar, Miranda.

In an Instagram post, Ace Hotel said: “Ace Hotel Shoreditch was the first Ace Hotel outside the US. We fell in love with that energy, and we’re excited to build a new home in London in the hopeful, renewed future.”
