Hackney Council is investing £2 million in significant renovations of Shoreditch Park, with a focus on increasing accessibility, biodiversity and sustainability.
The council told The Hackney Post that over 1,600 residents had their say on what improvements they wanted to see in the park, prior to the work beginning.
Cllr Caroline Woodley, Cabinet Member for Families, Early Years, Parks and Play, said: “We are really grateful to local residents for letting us know what they wanted to see in Shoreditch Park. We know these new, improved and inclusive facilities will bring a great deal of enjoyment.”
Philip Glanville, Mayor of Hackney, said the investment is “bringing excellent park, play and leisure facilities to the doorsteps of residents in Hoxton and Shoreditch”.

Some of the new additions include an outdoor gym, a multi-use games area, a beach volleyball court and the refurbishment of the sports pitch. A wildflower area will also be added.
The pitch will be usable from September but unavailable for bookings until May next year ensuring the new grass has time to grow.
A roundabout and accessible swings with rigid backs will also be made accessible for wheelchair users, while slides will be added for two people to use at one time.
The final phase of work will take place between July and October this year. Decreased grass mowing, wildlife-friendly hedges and the wildflower meadow will all increase biodiversity.
