From her home in Dalston, Hyacinth Myers, 47, started making jewellery 16 years ago.
In 2006, the CEO and creative entrepreneur lost one of her twin boys at 23 weeks due to his prematurity. She was left to raise her other son who had jaundice, heart surgery and chronic lung disease.
“It has been really tough but it has led me on to do work with parents and premature baby charities like Bliss,” she said.
Ms Myers’ jewellery making turned into a business in 2013 where she began to sell her work ‘Soul Conscious Creations’ in Hackney Pirates literacy charity and online. Using shells, wood, seeds, semi-precious stones and ethically sourced bone, Myers’ fashion line ranges from necklaces to bracelets and earrings.
Currently, she works as a holistic therapist and launched a women’s personal development programme and support network called Empower 7, in March 2017. Her classes support women facing adversity and trauma. The seven-week, seven-module programme uses meditation, reflective exercises and creative activities to help women find their identity.
A workshop attendee, Talibah Stevenson said: “I attended Hyacinth’s much anticipated Empower 7 launch. What stood out for me was witnessing her courage to bare her soul, talking about some of the adversities and traumas she had gone through and her remarkable resilience. She’s not just talking about how she can heal but how she has been able to do this for herself. An amazing advocate for bringing out what needs to be healed to enable our lives to be fulfilled with purpose.”
Ms Myers has written a book called Empower 7 Programme, based on overcoming adversity in women’s lives. She will self-publish and launch her book in Hackney on 18 April.
“I have inspired these women to keep achieving their business dreams,” she said.
