Meg Hillier MP is urging people to complain to Transport for London about their so-called “fast running” tactic, in which Overground trains frequently miss stops in Hackney.

Ms Hillier, the Hackney South and Shoreditch, disputed a recent claim from TfL that trains only “very rarely” miss stops to prevent further delays if they are already behind schedule, saying that it happens regularly.

In recent years, passengers in Hackney have noticed a tendency for trains to travel from Whitechapel or Shoreditch High Street all the way to Highbury & Islington station without stopping, delaying commuters who have to get another train.

A constituent told Ms Hillier “fast running” happens “at least once a week at peak times”.
A Hackney police officer also complained: “It means being late for work and in my line of work as a police officer, it is not ideal.

TfL has compensated some passengers who have complained, but Hillier maintained that “TfL need to get a grip on this.”

Ms Hillier first raised the issue with TfL in 2016, but has now put further pressure on the transport authority.
