Police recorded 307 drug charges, 169 more than Hoxton, which came second, and triple that of Stoke Newington.

Haggerston also topped the crime table for violence and sexual offences, burglary and criminal damage and arson.

In 2013, Hackney Council reported that overall crime there had risen from the previous year.

Earlier this month, police targeted the notorious ‘Holly Street Boys’ gang in a series of raids in Haggerston, making 11 arrests.

Trendy Dalston meanwhile, where house prices have risen faster than anywhere else in East London, experienced over 200 burglaries.

Clissold reported 889 anti-social behaviour cases, more than any other area in Hackney, despite having a relatively older and more affluent population compared with the rest of the borough. Otherwise, its crime rate was among the lowest.

Cazenove appears to be one of the safest places to live. The area reported fewer than 70 burglaries and just 401 instances of anti-social behaviour – half that of Clissold.

July was the most popular month for all areas when it came to violence, drugs, burglary and anti-social behaviour.

Detective chief inspector Shabnam Chaudhri recently said: “We will continue to work with the community and our partners to make Hackney safer.

“Drug dealing is never victimless and its impact can ruin lives, we will not give up the fight against crime.”
