Police are hunting for a man suspected of attacking an 11-year-old schoolgirl in Homerton.

The girl was walking through Banister House, an estate off Homerton High Street, in her school uniform at 8:30am on 27 September when she was grabbed from behind. She broke free after biting the assailant’s hand before running to school to raise the alarm.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses and have released an e-fit of the suspect and CCTV footage of the incident, which took place at 8:30am on 27 September.

CCTV images show the suspect exiting the Banister House Estate onto Homerton Grove and heading east towards Wardle Street about 20 minutes after the attack.

He is described as a dark-skinned man of about 40, around 6ft tall with a stocky build. He has a greying spiky beard and a scratch on his left cheek.

Detective Inspector Paul Ridley said: “Whilst enquiries are ongoing, it is vital that we continue to gather information and I would ask anyone who believes they know the identity of the attacker to contact my investigation team.If you are the individual captured on the CCTV then please come forward.

“We are continuing with extra high visibility patrols in the area to reassure the public.”
