Car bursts into flames at Old Street roundabout

A car dramatically caught fire and burst into flames at Old Street roundabout last Tuesday, as dozens of bystanders looked on.

Dozens of pedestrians gathered to witness the incident at around 10pm on Wednesday, which was tended to by fire crews from the nearby Shoreditch Fire Station, who speedily put out the blaze.

Michael Berg, who posted photos of the scenes, wrote on Twitter: “Whole car on fire at Old Street in the road, could feel the heat from car!”

Police also attended to manage traffic but no one was injured.

London Fire Brigade said in a statement: “A huge amount of people saw a car burst into flame near Old Street roundabout in Islington yesterday night.

“Several calls alerted the Brigade to the blaze. One fire engine from Shoreditch fire station attended the scene and firefighters put out the fire in a few minutes.

“Thankfully nobody was injured. The police were also on the scene to manage the traffic. The Brigade was called at 2216 and the fire was under control by 22:32.
