The Libertines and Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty has announced two solo tour dates in May at the Hackney Empire.

Doherty will play at the Hackney Central venue on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 May as part of his Eudaimonia tour and ahead of a much anticipated solo album.

An announcement on Doherty’s website on Monday said: “As the finishing touches are being put to his new, as yet untitled album, we are pleased to announce five Pete Doherty solo shows in the UK in May including two nights at the Hackney Empire in London.”

Doherty was due to play with the Libertines, whose hits include “Don’t Look Back Into The Sun” and “Can’t Stand Me Now”, in London at the Camden Electric Ballroom last September, but following an anxiety attack he was forced to pull out of the gig.

After cancelling his appearance at the show in Camden, Libertines band counsellor Dylan Kerr said in a statement on Doherty’s website that the move was not related to the musician’s previous problems with drug addiction, but rather was due to anxiety.

“It purely a psychological experience and the person must do whatever is necessary to arrest those feelings,” said Mr Kerr.

“It is a good thing that Peter is trying to live a normal life, as these are the reactions to stress that you’re taught to use in rehab – rather than shutting yourself away. Avoid the stress and resume some normality.”

Fans of the singer reacted on Twitter to the new tour dates:

According to Doherty’s website, AlbionRooms.com, tickets will be on sale from this Friday.
