An initiative to improve the people management skills of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) held its first event at the Hackney Business Bootcamp last Friday.
The People Skills Initiative, created by the partnership of the JP Morgan Foundation and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), offers free advice to SMEs.
François Landers, Head of Market and Operations at CIPD, said: “We want small businesses to be more comfortable taking in young people, offer apprenticeships and to move further up the productivity chain.”
JP Morgan launched the programme for Hackney businesses because “Hackney is not about manufacturing but tech and creative industries”, said Mr Landers.
“Creative people think and work in a different way and old school HR is not useful”.
“Being innovative and savvy is what makes SMEs stand out in a competitive environment,” Mr Landers told the Hackney Post.
The program is being tested in Hackney, Stoke-on-Trent, and Glasgow until July 2016.
