Sixty young athletes rubbed shoulders with royalty in Hackney Wick on Friday as the Duchess of Cambridge visited a workshop at the Copper Box for charity SportsAid.

Kate joined in a game of volleyball and also watched as the young stars took part in demonstrations of their sports, including badminton and wheelchair basketball.

Jordan Dalrymple, a 20-year-old volleyball player, said: “It was an incredible moment to have the opportunity to play volleyball with the Duchess of Cambridge.”

The visit was the duchess’ first solo public engagement since the birth of her son Prince George, who was baptised yesterday at Chapel Royal at St James’ Palace.
