The brother of X-Factor finalist Rachel Hylton has been jailed for life for murdering a student in an attack of “horrifying and merciless ferocity”.
Khryie Hylton, 17, from Hackney, admitted stabbing 20-year-old Yusufo Miiro nine times in the head and chest last July in a Walthamstow towerblock.
An Old Bailey jury heard how Hylton was seized with jealousy when he found out Mr Miiro, a promising criminology student, had been seeing his former girlfriend, 18-year-old Rochelle Sinclair.
Hylton donned a white face mask and hood before attacking Mr Miiro as he returned to Ms Sinclair’s flat from a fast food outlet, the court heard.
Sentencing Hylton to a minimum of 16 years’ imprisonment on 5 March, Judge Timothy Pontius said: “You confronted Yusufu and killed him in an attack of horrifying and merciless ferocity.
“You are clearly an intelligent young man and well aware of what you were doing.”
Hylton’s sister Rachel came sixth in last year’s X-Factor finals, losing out to Alexandra Burke.
