On a trip of a lifetime to Australia, a Homerton couple received a phone call with the last thing any pet owner wants to hear.

Rich Blackman and Kieron Furphy’s three-year-old cat Claude was missing, and they were powerless to help from some 9,000 miles away.

Housemate Steve, 41, alerted them to the news when Claude failed to return home on the 16 November.

When they arrived back in the UK, Rich and Kieron got straight to work, and transformed the front of their home into a mass of posters and balloons for the campaign #FindClaude – and are offering a £1000 reward for the cat’s safe return.

Rich, who works as a team manager at Deloitte, said: “I got Claude on Christmas Eve 2014. He is [a Burmese cat],  a very special breed. He plays fetch and hide and seek around the house – you have to go and hide and he comes to search for you.

“He normally comes home when you call him, and people know him on the street because he is so friendly.”

Rich and Kieron now fear Claude may have been stolen because he’s such a rare and expensive breed.

Thousands of posters have been put up around the Homerton area by the couple and other fans of Claude.
